RFW dancers take class with SYTYCDwinner
On Sunday, November 10th, several dancers from Rhonda's FooteWorks traveled with Director, Rhonda Foote, to attend the Che Force Workshop at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool, NY. The dancers took contemporary dance classes with Chehon Wespi, the 2012 male winner of So You Think You Can Dance. They also took a class with Jody Dombrowski, from Buffalo, NY. Chehon was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Sydney, Australia and Zurich, Switzerland. He began dancing at the age of 13 and at 14 was offered a spot at The Royal Ballet School, London. Whilst still a student Chehon received many prestigious dance and choreographic awards, including the Grand Prix at the ‘American Dance Competition’ and the coveted 'Ursula Moreton Choreographic Award' in London. Chehon has been invited on various occasions to perform for the Royal Family of England and in Copenhagen for the Queen of Denmark. Upon graduating from the RBS, Chehon joined the Los Angeles Ballet in 2009 where he performed various principal roles. In 2011 Twyla Tharp invited Chehon to join her award winning Broadway Show 'Come Fly Away'. Chehon joined the cast of CFA as the youngest company member, where he performed all the leading roles. His performances and capability to command the stage earned him rave reviews across the US, proclaiming him as one of the strongest and most promising young dancers of today. Chehon put a hold on his dancing career in 2012 to audition for the FOX hit TV show 'So You Think You Can Dance'. It was his eagerness to grow as an artist and expand his horizon that prompted him to do so. In the course of the show Chehon performed some of the most memorable routines in the history of SYTYCD. His emotional journey and capability to grow as a performer won over the hearts of America and he went on to take the title of 'Americas Favorite Dancer'. Since then Chehon has been seen on the SYTYCD Top10 National Tour, he was featured on the Cover of Dance Spirit Magazine, appeared on the ELLEN show and guest starred on the popular TV series 'Bones'. Chehon has already made 2013 his biggest year yet, landing his first starring role in a full-length feauture film, 'East Side Story'. He has also created his own unique brand for movers: 'CheForce', with which he aims to inspire and give dance a louder voice. Dancers attending from Rhonda's FooteWorks included Alumni, Bethany Gore and current company dancers, Alexandra Davis (Croghan), Madison Draper (Watertown), Brianna Lockwood (Watertown), Isabelle Marsala (Watertown), Aubrianna Murphy (Lowville), Robyn Scraper (Copenhagen) and Shyla Smith (Watertown).
