Atsaiktonkie Performs at Grassroots

TRUMANSBURG, NY (July 11, 2009)— Native Folk Singer-Songwriter Atsiaktonkie (ah-jeeak-doon-gee-ay) will perform on The Infield Stage at the 19th Annual Fingerlakes Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg, New York on Thursday, July 16 at 5:30 PM followed by Donna the Buffalo at 7:00 PM and Rusted Root at 9:00 PM. Atsiaktonkie will also perform on The Grandstand Stage at 12:30 AM on Friday, July 17.

By blending elements of folk, rock, country and Americana with poignant lyrics, harmonious melodies, and vocals reminiscent of Neil Young and Michael Stipe of REM, Atsiaktonkie has been delighting audiences across the country and internationally in Canada for the last 10 years. Atsiaktonkie even caught the attention of Neil Young who sent him the song “The Treaty” to record.

Atsiaktonkie will be selling copies of his current CD Four Wolves Prophecy, as well as his traditional CD The Ancient Ones-A Call To The Ancients at the festival. Half of the proceeds from all CD sales will benefit the Akwesasne Freedom School, which without funding could result in the Mohawk language and culture diminishing completely. Festivalgoers are invited to stop by Atsiaktonkie’s booth and join his fan mailing list for a chance to win autographed merchandise. Two lucky winners are chosen from this list each month to receive a special gift from Atsiaktonkie.

J Poet from Native Peoples Magazine says “the album retains his (Atsiaktonkie’s) blend of Native, folk, and rock with a low key, mostly acoustic production that makes the tunes sound like they were captured in a comfortable living room in the presence of close friends.” Jud Conway from Kindweb says, “Atsiaktonkie’s blend of strong musicianship, pointed lyrics, and crisp production has not been lost on his musical peers.” While Mark Bialczak from The (Syracuse) Post Standard says ”Atsiakotnkie sings from the heart about what he sees in Mohawk Territory, near Massena.”
