6x6 Art Still Being Collected

The North Country Children’s Clinic and North Country Access are continuing their call for local art contributions for the 6 x 6 Art Opens Doors Project in order to reach their goal of collecting over 2,009 original works of art by Sept. 30.

Their unique event gathers artwork from well-known artists, celebrities, and craftspeople, as well as from students, active duty military, people with disabilities . . . from anyone who wants to help make a difference in the lives of children and promote the appreciation of art.

While submissions are created in every possible artistic medium, the size and shape of each piece is identical: 6 inches by 6 inches square. When the work is exhibited, in October at Jefferson Community College, the pieces will be hung anonymously, side by side and viewers will not know for sure if the piece they are admiring was created by well-known artist Patience Brewster, book illustrator Michael Thayer, or a South Jefferson Central art student. They can, however purchase any 6 x 6 piece they choose for the same, identical price of $20. The identity of artists will be revealed to purchasers, and also to exhibit-goers who have requested information about specific pieces.

So far, almost 700 creative pieces have been collected, but additional art donations are needed in order to truly “open the doors” to a better quality of life for North Country children.

Artwork for the event can be submitted through September 30th. More information, entry forms, answers to frequently asked questions, and art collection site locations are all available at www.childrens-clinic.org. You may also request a packet of information by calling North Country Children’s Clinic at (315) 782-9450.
