Junior righthander David Goerold (Clifton Park, NY) threw a complete-game shutout against Rensselaer for the Clarkson University Baseball team on Saturday, and that feat led him to Liberty League Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday.
Goerold, who shared the honor with a pitcher from Rensselaer, allowed five hits and walked two in the 5-0 victory over Rensselaer. It was the first time since 1969 that the Golden Knights completely shut down the Engineers' offense. Goerold struck out four batters against Rensselaer.
For the season, Goerold is 1-1 with 10 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings pitched. He has posted an ERA of 2.31, good for fifth in the league, and has allowed only two extra base hits, providing opponents with a modest .327 slugging percentage.
