With a school-record for goals in a game, the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team put an end to a three-game losing skid in convincing fashion by dominating Morrisville State 23-7 in non-league action at Hantz Turf Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) led the Golden Knights’ most potent offensive effort in the 32-year history of the program with eight goals and three assists. VanDeValk came up just one goal shy and two points short of tying the school records for most goals (9) and points in a game (13), both held by Mary Rice ’03.
Clarkson controlled play from the start and held a 16-4 lead after 30 minutes. The Knights continued to roll in the second half outscoring the Mustangs 7-3.
Freshman Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) also enjoyed a strong game at attack, posting nine points, including six goals.
Junior Cammie Hayes (Queensbury, NY), sophomore Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) and freshman Kerrie Cline (Tuxedo, NY) all scored two goals each. Senior Kimberly Loucks (Waterloo, NY) and freshmen Jeannette Pendergast (Greenfield Center, NY) and Katherine Jondro (Waitsfield, VT) rounded out the Green and Gold scoring with one tally apiece.
Carmen Velazquez led Morrisville (4-7) with two goals.
Clarkson outshot the Mustangs 38-20 and controlled ground balls 28-17.
Sophomore Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) made seven saves in the Clarkson win. Cline scooped up a team-high four ground balls.
At 6-4 overall, the Knights return to Liberty League play on Friday when they host Vassar College in a 4:00 p.m. at Hantz Turf Field.
