Thanks to his second complete-game shutout in a month, junior David Goerold (Clifton Park, NY) of the Clarkson University Baseball team was chosen as the Liberty League Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Goerold, who shared the honor with a pitcher from St. Lawrence, tossed a nine-inning gem against Brockport State as Clarkson picked up the extra-inning victory thanks to a walk-off hit by David Kinney (Mexico, NY) in the bottom of the ninth. Goerold scattered 10 hits, but allowed just a single walk and struck out four. He induced numerous groundouts, including a stretch of three straight innings where he wiggled out of jams with double plays.
For the season, Goerold is 3-2 with a conference-best four complete games and a league-leading two shutouts. He ranks sixth in the league in earned run average at 2.41.
