May 1, 2010

With a strong first-quarter effort and a three-goal lead at the half, the Clarkson University Lacrosse team looked to be on its way to a victory on Saturday afternoon, but Skidmore College came out and dominated the final 30 minutes to gain a 10-6 win over the Golden Knights in the regular season final at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson closes out the 2010 campaign with a 3-12 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the Liberty League, while Skidmore advances to play in next week’s conference playoffs.

The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and built their advantage to 5-2 after 30 minutes. The Thoroughbreds (8-5, 4-2), however, dominated the second half, outscoring the Green and Gold 8-1 over the final 30 minutes, putting four goals on the scoreboard in both the third and fourth quarters.

Corey Barkoff led Skidmore with a game-high four points, including three goals. Freshman Mike Holden chipped in two goals for the Thoroughbreds.

Freshman John Devine (Orchard Park, NY) led Clarkson offensively with two goals. Junior Mitch Collins (Baldwinsville, NY), sophomores Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ) and Matt Cyr (Cheshire, CT), and freshman Jeff Sciera (DeWitt, NY) also scored for the Knights
