The weekend didn't close out the way they would have liked it, but senior Brady Torbitt (Fulton, NY), junior Alex Giovannone (New Hartford, NY), and Bryan Chudy (Goshen, NY) each were awarded with Liberty League Weekly awards for their performance at the conference championships for the Clarkson University Baseball team.
Torbitt, who was chosen as Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week, continued to impress in post-season action. Last year's tournament Most Outstanding Player, Torbitt did everything in his power to repeat that performance, batting .474 (8-for-18) with 14 total bases, including three doubles and a home run. He drove in seven runs and scored six more over the course of four games.
Giovannone, who was picked as the Liberty League Co-Pitcher of the Week, dominated the University of Rochester lineup in the final elimination game on Saturday afternoon. The junior lefty struck out three over the course of seven-plus innings, but didn't allow a run as the Golden Knights continued to shut down the Yellowjackets offense in post-season play, extending Rochester's scoreless streak against Clarkson to 19 innings in conference tournament contests.
In Sunday's championship game, freshman Bryan Chudy, chosen as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week, took the loss against Skidmore College, 3-1, but was dominant nevertheless. Chudy allowed just six hits over seven-plus innings, whiffing five in the process and keeping Clarkson in contention throughout the contest.
