FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 10, 2013
The Upper New York Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church is pleased to announce that 16 clergy were welcomed during the Conference's 2013 Service of Commissioning, Ordination, and Reception held on June 1 at the OnCenter, Syracuse.
The Annual Conference is the regional administrative body of the Church, and the Upper New York region includes 920 churches throughout upstate New York.
During the service, which is held at the end of three days of worship and Conference business, 15 ministers were commissioned or ordained; one minister was received into full membership; Upper New York Area Resident Bishop Mark J. Webb presided.
Among the clergy commissioned as provisional elders was:

The Rev. Sally Ann Buyea
Rev. Buyea is appointed to serve at the Dexter and Brownville United Methodist churches, located approximately 8 miles west of Watertown, starting July 1. She has previously served congregations in Clark Mills, Canastota and Clockville.
Rev. Buyea received her Master of Divinity from the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester.
She said of her calling: "As Christians we are all called to ministry. We minister one to another in our lives as Christians in that our lives should reflect God's love for one another in all we do and in all we say. ... John Wesley felt the whole world was his parish; his ministry went beyond the four walls of any single church and reach the world.
" ... I am at the point where I will step into the role (of an elder); I have answered the call and, with God's help, I will live into that ministry which reaches out to the world with God's love."
Rev. Buyea and her husband, James, have seven children: Charity Brown-Taylor, Adrienne Trahnstrom, Janet Brown Chan, Jenna Crane, Heather Eckrich, Lori Erwin and Megan O'Shields.

Provisional elders are those ministers who have been commissioned to begin a probationary period before receiving full ordination. The provisional elders are usually recent seminary graduates who must serve at least two years in a full-time appointment after being commissioned. During this period, the provisional elder is granted sacramental authority only in the place in which they are appointed such as a local church.

Lewis County Hospital Foundation is one of the community groups receiving a grant from the Stewart’s “2011 Holiday Match” fund drive. These grants are designated to be used directly for children 18 years and younger.
“In our grant application to Stewart’s, we suggested that “new-borns” have to be very closely monitored,” said Lorrie Stanford, LCGH Head Maternity Nurse. “Stewart’s gift will assist in acquiring a portable “photo-therapy” unit for our youngest patients. There is a growing need, since our maternity department had over 300 deliveries in 2011!”
Rob Eger, Stewart’s Lowville store manager said, “Throughout the Stewart’s 20-county area, customers donated over $700,000 to the program, and the company matches each dollar. Making this year’s record total chain-wide over $1.4 million!”
“The Holiday Match is a great community program, with several local agencies directly benefiting.” said Tim O’Connor, Executive Director. “We appreciate Stewart’s generous donation to assist our Foundation’s on-going fund raising efforts.”
