CARTHAGE, N.Y. (WWNY) - Playoff baseball and golf sectionals were among the items on the local sports menu Friday night.
In the Section 3 Class A Baseball Playoffs from Carthage, the Comets hosted Fulton. At the bottom of the 6th. Carthage was down 5-3, Justin Meador singles past the 3rd baseman, plating a run and cutting the Fulton lead to 5-4. Then it was Orlando Martinez with an infield hit,.Devin Vanlengen scores, tying the game at 5. Conner Ashlaw draws a bases loaded walk. Keegan Perretta scores to put the Comets up 6-5. The Comets score 7 times in the 6th and go on to beat Fulton 10-5.
In the Section 3 Class B Playoffs from Adams, South Jeff met Adirondack. South Jeff starter Ryan McLean works his way out of a jam in the top of the 1st with the strikeout to end the inning. At the bottom of the 2nd, South Jeff gets on the scoreboard. Coby Porter singles back up the middle and Caden Lucas crosses. Score: 1-0 Spartans. Adirondack beats South Jeff 6-2 in 9 innings.
In the Section 10 Class C play-in game, Tupper Lake was at St. Lawrence Central. Ansen Weeger singles to center, plating Jarrett St. Hilaire and tying the game at 1. But Tupper lake scores 2 in the 7th to upset the Larries 4-2.
The Section 10 Class D Quarters featured Lisbon hosting St. Regis Falls. Lisbon was looking to add to its lead, but Issac LaRock was out trying to score on the wild pitch. Griffin Walker closes out the game with a strikeout as Lisbon beat St. Regis Falls 9-3. Lisbon pitching fanning 10 in the win.
Another Section 10 Class D Quarter, this time Parishville Hopkinton visiting Morristown. Kade Marshall singles, putting the Green Rockets up 1-0. At the top of the 2nd, Parishville Hopkinton ties it up on Peyton Snell's single to center field. Top of the 3rd, Tanner Rosenbarker helps his own cause with the seeing eye single. Score: 2-1 Panthers. Kade Hayes clears the bases as Parishville Hopkinton beats Morristown 10-3.
In the Section 10 Golf Medalist Round, Jake Vanhouse of O.F.A. tops the field with a 155 total. That was only two shots better than Jake Amo of Massena who carded a 157. Adam Slamzynski of Clifton Fine finished 3rd with a 159 total. Terrell Thomas of Massena was 4th with a 160 for 2 days. Cade Vanburen of Madrid Waddington rounded out the top 5 with a 161. Sixth was Ryan Jones of Canton with a 2 day total of 163. Jones was one shot better than Dylan Farr of Gouverneur who carded a 164. Lucas Ryan of Madrid Waddington finished 8th with a 172 and tied with Kelson Hooper of O.F.A. with a 172 total.
