WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - If you order this dish as street food in Mexico, it will come dredged in flour, covered with cracker crumbs, and deep-fried in lard.
Chef Chris Manning makes us a healthier version that's great for Cinco de Mayo, the fifth of May, which is coming up Sunday.
It's called Chuletas, which are Mexican hamburgers. He serves it on a grilled tortilla, but you can always use a standard hamburger bun instead.
Watch the video for his tips and tricks.
Chuletas - Mexican Burgers
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small onion, minced (about 1/2 cup)
- 2 tablespoons minced jalapeño pepper
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup salsa (any brand)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl and divide into eight four-ounce patties. Grill to desired temperature.
Serve over shredded lettuce and top with diced tomatoes, diced onion, sour cream, and crumbled queso fresco.
