OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - An Ogdensburg fire crew found itself with a serious problem Thursday afternoon.

The truck’s rear axle fell off.

We’re told this happened on Caroline Street as the truck was making a left turn.

A post on the Ogdensburg firefighter’s union Facebook page says the crew was on its way to provide support at a possible meth lab on New York Avenue.

The firefighters say the accident could have been “catastrophic.”

Now they’re left with two working engines.

Mayor Wayne Ashley tells 7 News no one was hurt as that rear axle disconnected from the rig and he says he commends the firefighters for acting fast to get the truck under control and bring it to a stop.

City officials are looking into what happened and will move forward once they have that information.
