SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. (WWNY) - It was a hands-on history lesson at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield.
Fourth graders from North Elementary in Watertown learned about the toys children played with in the early 1800s.
It’s one part of a larger lesson on how people lived during the War of 1812
“We want them to get a sense of what life was like during the War of 1812, not only for the military, but for civilians and youngsters like themselves,” said Connie Barone, site manager.
"I think it was really hard for the people living back then , but now it’s really easy,” said Connor Murtie, fourth grader.
Every year, hundreds of students visit the battlefield. Many of them start learning about the War of 1812 in second grade.
