SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WWNY) - The New York State Softball Playoffs continued Friday night with the Class D opening round. Undefeated Lafargeville took on Edwards Knox in Syracuse.
The Edwards Knox Girls got a huge sendoff at their school, with students and staff seeing the team off for the state quarterfinals.
But the undefeated Lady Red Knights were all business in this all North Country State Class D Quarterfinal.
At the bottom of the first, Lafargeville strikes first as Emma Timmerman goes the other way for a base hit. Miranda Brown scores: 1-0 Lafargeville.
Then it was Sam Lewis with the base hit back up the middle, Bailee Young crosses. Score: 2-0 Lafargeville after the first.
At the top of the second, Kamryn Barnes slaps a base hit to left and Charisma Demarse checks in, 3-0 Lafargeville. Then it was Izzy Soluri with the infield single, Barnes scores. Score: 4-0 Lady Red Knights.
Still in the second, Timmerman singles back up the middle and Sarah Johnson and Young score: 6-0 Lafargeville.
Rachel Brown caps off the inning with a single behind 2nd, Abby Gaumes scores: 7-0 Lafargeville.
Johnson would go the distance, striking out 10 and tossing a no hitter as the Lady Red Knights become the first team in school history to advance to the State Final Four with a 12-0 win in 6 innings.
