GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. (WWNY) - Flag Day is officially celebrated this coming Friday, June 14. But they got an early start Sunday in Gouverneur with a parade, a farmers market, and craft fair at the St. Lawrence County fairgrounds.
A crowd of people turned out at the fairgrounds to look over food and crafts offered by 20 vendors. This is the first year vendors have taken part in the celebration.
“We wanted to make it more of an all day affair,” said Dr. Steelson Schwelnus from the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce. “Before, people would just come and go. So we wanted to start building up that people can buy, sell stuff.”
The vendors who sold products are all members of the Gouverneur Chamber. Flag Day is celebrated to commemorate the official adoption of the United States flag.
