Friday Sports: Lafargeville Ladies Softball looking for State Title

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (WWNY) - The State Final 4 in Girls’ Softball takes place Saturday in South Glens Falls with two area teams in search of state titles. For the Lafargeville Lady Red Knights, their shot at a state title has been a long time coming.

The Lady Red Knights of Lafargeville would like a perfect end to a perfect season tomorrow when they meet deposit in the State Class D Softball Semifinals at Moreau Park in South Glens Falls.

Lafargeville enters the game 20-0 on the season, reaching their 1st ever State Final 4 with a 12- 0 win over Edwards Knox in the State Quarterfinals at Carrier Park in Syracuse.

For the 9 seniors on the team, this is their last chance at a state title And making it to the final weekend of the 2019 season is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.

After falling short of making it to the State Final 4 in 2005, 2006 and 2016, the Lady Red Knights finally made it over the hump this year and will be looking to bring home the school's first state title. Win or lose, its been a record setting season for the Lady Red Knights.

In the State Class D Baseball Semifinals from Binghamton, Lisbon met Brocton.

Lisbon, down 1-0 in the fifth, gets its best scoring chance, loading the bases on a bunt single, but the lead runner comes down the third baseline too far, then slips trying to get back to the bag and it tagged out.

Lisbon lefty, Griffin Walker, held the Bulldogs in check through four-plus innings, but five hits and a pair of costly errors led to a seven-run Brocton explosion in the bottom of the fifth that sunk the Golden Knights and ended their Cinderella season and first-ever trip to a State Final 4 in school history.

The Watertown Rapids on the road in Little Falls meeting Mohawk Valley. At the top of the second, Danny Dimarzo goes deep, a 2 run home run to left center. Rapids go up 2-0.

At the top of the fourth, Rapids add to their lead. It was Drake Smith with the infield single, plating Johnathan Catapano. 3-0 Rapids.

The Rapids continue to beat Mohawk Valley 10-4.
