CARTHAGE, N.Y. (WWNY) - Carthage Area Rescue Squad has decided to pass on Carthage Area Hospital’s offer of help. That’s according to a hospital official.

The rescue squad is dealing with the apparent loss of at least $100,000 through embezzlement, which Carthage police are investigating.

Last week, rescue squad and hospital officials met, and the hospital extended an offer of help involving the hospital taking over management of the squad.

However, during a meeting Tuesday night, the squad’s board of directors decided to pass on the offer and remain independent, according to Taylor Lynn Scanlin, the hospital’s foundation and marketing director.

The hospital remains willing to assist the squad, she said.

Reached Wednesday, squad officials had no comment on the decision.
