Friday Sports: Watertown Rapids lose to Elmira on the diamond

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - After a scheduled off day and a rainout Thursday night, the Watertown Rapids were back in action Friday at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds hosting Elmira in PGCBL play.

The Rapids were out to snap their current 3 game losing streak before they hit the road for a 3 game trip.

At the top of the second, the score was 4-1 Elmira when Mason Ruhlman strikes out. He was thrown out at 1st after the catcher dropped the ball but Jeff Mejia scored from 3rd. Score: 5-1 Elmira.

Still in the 2nd, it was Garrett Schultz with the base hit to left and Preston Moore scores, 6-1 Pioneers.

At the bottom of the second, the Rapids get one back as Dylan Sanchez scores on the wild pitch, Rapids still down 6-2.

At the bottom of the third the Rapids get another back. Brandon Taylor's shot goes off the 1st baseman's glove and Vinnie Derubies scores, 6-3 Elmira.

Elmira defeats Watertown 7-5. The Rapids fall to a record of 7-7 on the season. Watertown plays Amsterdam on Saturday at 6:45 PM.
