MASSENA, N.Y. (WWNY) - More than 80 pounds of marijuana were seized at the U.S.-Canadian border at Massena.

U.S. Border Patrol agents said they arrested an American citizen involved in transporting approximately 81 pounds of marijuana.

Last Friday, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Massena Border Patrol Station said they observed a suspicious vehicle traveling from a known smuggling route.

Agents stopped the vehicle and brought in a K9 team. Agents said they discovered approximately 81 pounds of packaged-for-sale marijuana.

“Removing more than $320,000 worth of illegal narcotics from our community is only one aspect of what our men and women do on a daily basis to safeguard our community,” said Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia in a news release. “Agents’ keen observations and relentless work-ethic were crucial in the arrest of a drug smuggler.”

The driver, who was not identified, faces felony charges of first-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
