NEWARK, N.J. (WWNY) - The Watertown Rapids were on the road Friday night, traveling to Newark to face the Pilots in a PGCBL West Division Battle.

Watertown, losers of 8 of their last 10 games, were looking to snap a 3 game losing streak. The Rapids get on the board in the top of the 1st on a double steal. Drake Smith steals 2nd and Derek Kasperzyk slides under the tag at home. Score: 1-0 Rapids.

Still in the 1st period, its Michael Rounds with the base hit to right center, Smith comes around to score, 2-0 Rapids after a half inning.

At the top of the second, the Rapids add to their lead. Dylan Sanchez rips a base hit to left field, bringing in Brandon Taylor. Score: 3-0 Rapids.

At the bottom of the second, the Pilots strike. Dylan Duplechain singles through a hole into left and Parker Denny scores, 3-1 Rapids.

Then it was George Rosales with a failed pickoff at 2nd, Duplechain comes around from 2nd to score, cutting the Rapids lead to 3-2.

At the top of the third, the Rapids add to their lead. Rounds doubles down the right field line and Vinnie DeRubeis comes around to score, 4-2 Rapids.

The Rapids go on to win 5-2. They play Geneva on Saturday at 7:15 PM.

Friday's contest was the team's 8th game in the last 10 days.

A 2 month summer league season where players are in action almost every day can take a toll on the players who aren’t use to such a hectic schedule, but Rapids Manager Michael Wood says both he and his coaching staff pay close attention to that.
