WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Watertown fire crews spent Sunday morning fighting an apartment building fire at 1125 State Street.

Fire Chief Dale Herman said city crews were dispatched around 4:56 AM.. When crews arrived they found heavy smoke. Herman said the fire looked to have started in a second floor apartment and spread to the attic.

Watertown Police were able to identify and account for all the occupants in the building. No one was hurt.

The American Red Cross was called in and assisted three occupants who lived in the building that has six units. Herman believed of the six units, five were rented out.

“Due to the condition of the building, it won’t be able to be occupied for quite some time,” Herman said.

The building is owned by Stephen McGowan.

Herman said the cause of the fire is still undetermined.
