WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - A 26 year old Gouverneur man is accused of displaying what appeared to be a handgun at the scene of a crash before fleeing the scene.

Village police charged Kevin Asti with two counts of second-degree menacing and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

On July 2, Asti’s vehicle collided with another vehicle at Riverside cemetery on William Street in Gouverneur.

According to police, an argument began between Asti and two people in the other vehicle. Police said Asti lifted his shirt to display what appeared to be handgun tucked in the waistband of his pants. He then fled the scene of the crash, police said.

When police later found Asti, they said they recovered a toy gun on the dashboard of his vehicle.

Asti was arrested, released and ordered to appear in Gouverneur Town Court at a later date.
