WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - An assistant public defender for Jefferson County has been charged with drunk driving for the second time in six years.

Watertown police arrested 43 year old Aaron Carr of Watertown early Wednesday morning on Arsenal Street in the city.

He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving without a license and failure to dim headlights.

According to police, Carr had a blood alcohol content of .22 percent - nearly three times the legal limit.

The legal threshold for DWI is .08 percent.

In March 2013, Carr was a senior assistant district attorney for Jefferson County when he was arrested on drunk driving charges.

His BAC at the time of his arrest was .32 percent, officials said.

In a candid interview at the time, Carr told 7 News he was an alcoholic and was focused on getting treatment.

He resigned his post with the DA’s office.

In terms of Carr’s future with the county public defender’s office, County Administrator Robert Hagemann said it’s under review.

7 News was unable to reach Carr for comment.
