WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - A 31 year old Chaumont man is accused of robbing a Watertown man at gunpoint in the city.

City police charged Brandon Thompson of 11385 Circle Drive with felony counts of second-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police were called to 661 Factory Street in Watertown early Tuesday morning for a report of a robbery.

According to police, 24 year old Devin Merritt reported a man entered his apartment without permission, displayed a handgun, and stole cigarettes and less than $50 in cash.

On Friday, police located Thompson at a home on California Avenue in the city.

Thompson was arraigned in city court and was ordered held without bail in the Jefferson County Jail, as Thompson has at least two prior felony convictions and is also currently on parole.

Police said they believe they recovered the gun which was reportedly used during the robbery and identified it as a BB gun.

According to police, Thompson and Merritt did not know each other.

The Metro Jeff Drug Task Force helped with the investigation.
