WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Watertown Men's City Golf Championships continued Friday at Ives Hill Country Club with quarterfinal action.
The first quarterfinal match of the afternoon saw two young guns square off as George Labarr met Paul Grant Jr for the right to face John Bufalini Saturday in the semifinals.
At the 1st hole, Labarr's chip on his 3rd shot nestled a little over a foot from the hole. Grant Jr drains his birdie putt to win the hole and go 1 up.
At the 2nd hole, it was Grant Jr with a long putt for par to win the hole, but it lips out. He settles for bogey.
Labarr sinks his bogey putt to halve the hole. Labarr would go on to beat Grant Jr. 3 and 1.
The 2nd quarterfinal match of the day saw defending champion Adam Brown doing battle with T.J. Penn. At the1st hole, Penn finds the bottom of the cup for his par. Meanwhile, Brown drills his birdie putt to win the hole and go 1 up.
At the 2nd hole, Brown has a birdie chip that he gets to settle within a foot and a half of the hole. Penn with a putt for bogey but it lips out. Brown wins the hole to go 2 up. Brown goes on to beat Penn 3 and 2.
The final quarterfinal match, a matchup between Chris Denesha and another up and comer, Dylan Kernahan. At hole 2, Denesha misses his putt for double bogey but still wins the hole to go 1 up after Kernahan hits 2 balls out of bounds.
At the 3rd hole, Kernahan gets back on track nailing the long par putt. Denesha also sinks his par putt. Denesha beats Kernahan in a tight one 1 up.
