WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Semifinal action took place Saturday morning in the 2019 Watertown Men's City Golf Championship at Ives Hill Country Club with a trip to the 36 hole match play final Sunday on the line.
Defending champion, Adam Brown looking for his 2nd straight title as he squared off against Chris Denesha. Brown would win the 1st hole with a birdie and sinks his par putt on the 2nd hole. The pressure was on Denesha to sink his par putt, which he misses. Brown goes 2 up after 2.
At the 3rd hole, it was Denesha with a putt for par that goes left and by the hole. Brown drains his par putt to go 3 up after 3. Brown goes on to beat Denesha 5 and 4.
The other semifinal saw 6 time City Golf champion, John Bufalini taking on young gun George Labarr for a spot in the final. At the1st hole, Labarr with a long birdie putt that finds the bottom of the cup, putting the pressure on Bufalini to sink his birdie putt. Bufalini does it to halve the hole.
At the 2nd hole, Bufalini puts his chip shot within a foot of the hole, he settles for par. Labarr makes his par putt to halve the hole, but Bufalini goes on to beat Labarr 3 and 2.
The 36 hole match play final for the championship final will feature John Bufalini against Adam Brown. The match tees off at 9 AM Sunday at Ives Hill Country Club.
Saturday was the final day of competition at the 26th Annual 1812 Shootout in Sackets Harbor with the girls taking center stage. Girls in 3rd and 4th grade, 5th and 6th grade, 7th and 8th grade, jv and varsity all hit the field for action.
Unlike years past, the event wrapped up Saturday instead of Sunday with just the girls playing. It is something tournament organizers say has worked out well for everyone.
In Northeastern Football Alliance action from Carthage, the Revolution looking for their 2nd straight win as they hosted the Monroe County Sting.
In the 2nd quarter, the Revolution are down 26-0, but they get on the board when Eric Labier finds a lane and strolls in from 2 yards out. The 2 point conversion was no good. Score: 26-6 Sting.
On their next possession, Monroe County adds to their lead as Bernard Williams tosses a 45 yard touchdown pass to Daryl Moore. Monroe County on top 32-6 at halftime. Monroe County goes on to beat the Carthage Revolution 40-19.
Meanwhile, in the Empire Football League, Plattsburgh defeats the Watertown Red and Black 47-17. The Red and Black's record 0-1 on the season.
The Watertown Rapids baseball team in Boonville meeting Adirondack Saturday. At the top of the 7th, the score 3-1 Watertown as Johnathan Catapano goes yard. A solo home run to right center that increases the Rapids lead to 4-1.
Still in the 7th, Khale Showers comes home on a wild pitch.The Rapids expand their lead to 5-1. The Rapids beat Adirondack 6-5. The Rapids improve to 13-18 on the season. They will travel to Elmira where they will play at 7:05 on Sunday.
