WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Seven new officers have officially graduated from the Black River-St. Lawrence Police Academy.
The graduates began their training last September 10.
Officers in the academy first go through classes and physical training before going out into the field with a more seasoned officer.
Brad Phelps is one of the graduates and is now a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy.
He says the ceremony snuck up on him and his classmates.
“We’ve had so much that we worked on as far as classes, passing thing, passing FTO. So really it’s, it came up very quickly,” he said.
Phelps was also awarded the top gun and iron man award.
Out of the 7 graduates, 4 join the Watertown Police Department, 2 are with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, and 1 goes to the Lowville Police Department.
