WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - New York would be the first state in the U.S. to ban the declawing of cats under legislation approved by lawmakers in June.
The measure now awaits the signature of Governor Cuomo.
In the meantime, there are many alternatives to declawing cats and Dr. Beulah Miller, a veterinarian at South Jefferson Veterinary Hospital, appeared on 7 News at Noon on Friday to talk about them.
Alternatives include clipping the claws, nail caps and scratching posts. Watch Dr. Miller’s interview above.
