WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Due to the heat, cooling stations opened Friday in St. Lawrence County.

The Massena Fire Station will be open as a public Friday until 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.

Anyone who needs a place to cool off is welcome to come to the station during these hours.

Massena officials are encouraging the public to check on the elderly, family, and neighbors during this heat event. If you encounter any heat related sickness or injury, you’re asked to dial 911.

The Gouverneur Community Center at 4673 State Highway 58 will be open as a cooling station on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ice and cold bottled water will be available.

The Norwood library is also serving as a cooling station until 6 p.m. Friday.

A heat advisory took effect at noon Friday and is scheduled to last until 6 p.m. Saturday for Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego counties and until 8 p.m. Saturday for St. Lawrence County.
