Man gets year in jail for stabbing, will be deported

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - A Guatemalan-born man will be deported after serving a time in Lewis County Jail for a stabbing.

In county court Friday, 22 year old German Abelino Sapon Yax was sentenced to a year in jail.

Yax pleaded guilty last week to a felony count of second-degree assault.

He was charged in the November 2018 stabbing of a farm worker at Demko Farm on State Route 26 near Martinsburg.

The victim was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica for treatment of stab wounds to his chest. He was listed in stable condition shortly after the incident.
