SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. (WWNY) - It was a day at the races Saturday at the Can-Am festival in Sackets Harbor.
Youngsters and teens took to the streets in the yearly soap box derby race, the “Sackets Speedster Challenge.”
Some drivers faced off head to head, while others went solo down the track.
In the end racers were trying for the best times, not to see who finished first.
Competition isn’t the only thing fueling these racers.
“I just like the speed and activity," said Carter Cook, one of the drivers.
“Getting to meet new opponents, and everything, and seeing how nice they really are," added Shayna Cook, another driver.
This is the seventh year the soap box derby has been held at the Can-Am Festival.
