Diamond highlights: Rapids fall & Can-Am Softball Shootout kicks off

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Watertown Rapids were unable to break a two-game losing streak when they faced the Newark Pilots in Perfect Games Collegiate League baseball action at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds Thursday night.

The Rapids were hoping to stay within striking distance of the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division against the last-place Pilots.

The Pilots defeated the Rapids 13-11.

One of the biggest summer softball tournaments in the area kicks off Friday at a number of sites around the area.

The 14th annual Can-Am Softball Shootout will have 74 teams participating in six different divisions.

Games will be played in Dexter, Clayton, Adams Center, Chaumont, Cape Vincent, and Watertown.

Friday and Saturday games involve pool play and Sunday's contests are single-elimination games.

Teams from all over New York state and six teams from the north country will be taking part.
