WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Golfers had the chance to play a round and support veterans Friday at Ives Hill Country Club in Watertown.

The inaugural golf tournament was hosted by Fire and Ice Contracting and United Professional Advisors.

Benefits from the tournament supported Homes For Our Troops.

The non-profit helps build custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 veterans.

Luke McDermott received a home in Clayton. He says having a house custom built for his needs makes a huge difference in his life.

“Being out on the golf course is obviously a little more strain on my legs. So, it’s going to be nice to be able to actually go home and take the prosthetics off for a little bit, and be able to get around the house, which is something I wasn’t able to do in other homes because, you know, tight hallways, small doors, stuff like that. But, I don’t have any of those problems in my home now,” he said.

Managing member of Fire and Ice, Corry Lawler, says he wants to bring the tournament back next year.
