Friday Sports: Alexandria Bay breaks in new tennis courts

ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. (WWNY) - The annual Alexandria Bay Betterment Foundation weekend is taking place with golf, paddle boating and a kids bike ride part of the event. Also part of the weekend, a tennis doubles tournament that’s being held on new courts that came about as part of a community fund raising event.

The official dedication of the referbished Alexandria Bay tennis courts was a ceremony that was part of the 5th annual John Russell Memorial Doubles Tournament.

The new look to the courts was spearheaded by a group of organizations and led by Jamie Stockton.

When you think of the role of the Alexandria Bay Betterment Organization, there's no better representation than these refurbished courts.

Alexandria Mayor Steven Jarvis says he's in awe of a community coming together for a project like this.

The updated tennis courts: a great representation of what can be done when a community comes together.

And in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, the Watertown Rapids battled the Elmira Pioneers. The Rapids won 9-1.
