ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. (WWNY) - It’a busy summer at River Hospital in Alexandria Bay.
The hospital itself is being renovated; work continues on the old hotel across the street, rechristened as the MacSherry Building, and a new medical office building is in the works.
To help get the job done the hospital wanted to raise $4 million. So far they have exceeded their goal by more than $100,000.
“I’ve worked here in this area for a long time but never seen such an outpouring support. It really felt like people understood the importance of having this hospital in our community,” said Stephanie Weiss, the hospital’s Director of Development.
Even though the hospital has surpassed its goal, it’s still looking for donations to help with equipment purchases.
“We are still working with the community to make sure that we get everything that’s needed to make the project the best it can be.,” Weiss said.
While construction work goes on, the hospital is fully open.
“Every single service line we have is open and operational, that hasn’t changed anything. It just might be a different entrance that you have to get to,” said Andrea Pfeiffer, the hospital’s Marketing Director.
Patients in the hospital’s wellness program are now being seen across the street at the MacSherry building. The program’s current building will be demolished.
Once the medical office building is completed the wellness program will move there, as will primary care and physical therapy.
Construction on the medical office building will start next month and is expected to be completed next fall.
