WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - With only about a month until school begins, the Watertown Urban Mission is hoping to reach its goal of helping students in Jefferson County get the supplies they need.

The Urban Mission is collecting supplies such as backpacks, binders, folders, and crayons.

Last year the Urban Mission provided more than 1,000 backpacks filled with supplies to children at all grade levels.

Executive director Dawn Cole says right now they only have about a third of the supplies they need, but there’s still time to donate.

"There’s many families who cannot afford the school supplies, and kids that are not adequately supplied for school aren’t ready for success," she said. "We want kids to start the school year at their very best -- ready to succeed academically, ready to fit in socially, and they need those supplies to make that happen."

Families can pick up supplies on August 20, 21, and 22.
