LORRAINE, N.Y. (WWNY) - An Adams Center man is accused of animal cruelty after authorities allegedly found 14 dead animals on his property and two more in such bad shape they had to be euthanized.
State police say 38 year old Jeffrey Zehr was charged with 14 counts of animal cruelty.
Troopers say they were called to a property on County Route 189 in the town of Lorraine where they found a horse -- which they say was in obvious pain -- that had been dragged to a section of the property.
A veterinarian who was called in to evaluate the horse also found a month-old calf in very poor health, police say.
Both animals had to be euthanized. Police say they found 14 dead animal carcasses and several other animals still alive, but without proper food and water.
All told, troopers say there were 25 cows, four horses, four ponies, and other farm animals still alive.
Zehr was ticketed and is scheduled to appear in Lorraine town court on August 20.
Troopers ask that anyone with information about Zehr to call them at 315-366-6000,
