POTSDAM, N.Y. (WWNY) - St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies have released some details about an accident that killed a 7 year old boy in Potsdam Thursday evening.

Deputies say their investigation shows that the 7 year old and a 6 year old boy were riding on a tube that was towed by a UTV in a private yard at 379 Hatch Road.

When the UTV turned left, the tube drifted to the right and hit a wooden fence and a large tree.

Both boys on the tube were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where the 7 year old was pronounced dead.

The 6 year old was admitted for observation.

The UTV was operated by a 14 year old boy with another 14 year old boy as passenger.

Deputies did not release names of anyone involved and say they are still investigating.

They were assisted at the scene by the Potsdam Police Department, state police, the Potsdam and Parishville rescue squads, and the Potsdam and Stockholm fire departments.
