Friday: new commander for Fort Drum’s medical branch

FORT DRUM, N.Y. (WWNY) - There’s a new commander for Fort Drum’s medical branch.

The U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC) held a change of command ceremony Friday morning.

MEDDAC provides medical care to soldiers, their families and retirees in the Fort Drum area.

The unit’s colors were passed in Friday’s ceremony, as Colonel Robert Heath took over from Colonel Brandon Bowline.

Heath was stationed at Fort Drum for a few months in 2007. Heath said Friday that a token he recieved then mirrors his journey back.

“When I left in 2007, I received a coin from the MEDDAC commander, which I am now becoming. So, I’m now coming back full circle," he said.

Fort Drum partners with community hospitals to provide health services for soldiers and their families.

As commander, Colonel Heath said he will help build and maintain those relationships.
