OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - A Republican and a Democrat are teaming up to run together as Ogdensburg mayor and city councilor.

Mike Skelly, a Republican, and John Rishe, a Democrat, have announced their joint write-in candidacy for the November election.

Skelly, an entrepreneur who owns JMS Mechanicals, is running for mayor.

Rishe is running for council. He is a former city hall employee who now works for the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority.

"We wanted to set aside partisan politics and form a team to work together with a common goal of improving Ogdensburg," Skelly said in a release announcing their write-in campaign.

"It is critical to lower our present taxes," Rishe said, "but Mike and I also wanted to team up to promote business growth and to help citizens by doing away with frequent issues from City Hall that frustrate them."

Skelly and Rishe plan to formally announce their candidacies at a news conference at 7 p.m. Monday at the former Ogdensburg Cinemas.
