WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Jreck Subs, one of the best known fast food chains in northern New York, is going up for sale.
That follows a judge's decision Friday that the company should be auctioned.
Jreck was operated by the U.S. Marshals Service. Its previous owner, Christopher Swartz, is serving a 12-and-a-half year prison sentence for wire fraud and tax evasion.
Swartz was sentenced two years ago and was ordered to forfeit his ownership.
Jreck franchisee Peter Whitmore says the court's decision to put the company up for auction was expected.
"So, it's a double-edged sword," he said. "Very excited that we'll have new owner and we can move forward, but since we don't know who that owner is or is going to be yet, there's concerns that we just hope it's a good, legitimate, engaged owner."
Whitmore says it could be two to three months before the bidding process begins.
