Saturday Sports: Carthage Revolution lose to Charlotte

CARTHAGE, N.Y. (WWNY) - In Northeastern Football Alliance action from Carthage, the Revolution hosted Charlotte at Carthage High School. The Revolution were looking to snap a 4 game losing streak after starting the season 3-1.

In the 2nd quarter, the Revolution defense was coming up big as Shawn Stewart came up with quarterback sack. Then it was Stewart with a blocked punt. Zachary Conner recovered on the Charlotte 5 yard line.

The Revolution capitalized as quarterback Jordan Vance took it in himself, putting the Revolution on top 7-0.

Later in the 2nd, Vance scored his 2nd touchdown of the game from 5 yards out. Score: 14-0 Revolution. But Charlotte would score 19 unanswered points and beat Carthage 19-14.

The Watertown Red and Black enjoy a bye week this week, and after a rough 1st month of the Empire Football League season, the team hopes to turn things around in the 2nd half.

It is the halfway point of the 2019 Empire Football League season and the Watertown Red and Black sit at 1-3. The Red and Black snapped a 3 game losing streak last Saturday in Waterville. They beat Mohawk Valley 14-7 and also closed out a 4 game road swing to open the season.

The Red and Black now find themselves in an enviable position: home for the entire 2nd half of the season. They play their final 4 regular season contests at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds.

Coach George Ashcraft says he has seen the team improve slowly each game and says now its a point of fine tuning things before they host the Plattsburgh Northstars next Saturday night.
