Police: Man brags about vehicle theft in public, winds up arrested

Foot chase in Watertown

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - A foot chase in Watertown Sunday morning led to an arrest, after a man allegedly bragged about stealing a S.U.V. while on the phone in a convenience store.

Watertown Police responded to the Mobil gas station on outer Coffeen Street. Authorities say convenience store workers overheard the man talking about stealing a vehicle in Gouverneur. They also overhead him say he had a sawed-off shotgun inside the S.U.V.

A store employee called police and when authorities showed up, they say the man ran, but didn't get far. He was caught after a brief chase.

Watertown Police have yet to release the name of the suspect. They’re continuing their investigation.
