WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - After a month on the road, the Watertown Red and Black played their first home game of the 2019 Empire Football League season Friday as they hosted the Plattsburgh Northstars. The Red and Black were looking to pick up their 2nd straight win after beating Mohawk Valley on the road 14-7 two weeks ago.
In the1st quarter, the Red and Black were driving but T.J. Williams coughed up the football and the Northstars recovered it.
But the Red and Black defense came up big, stopping a Plattsburgh drive as Orlando Miller picked off Plattsburgh quarterback Harry Rascoe and put the Watertown offense in good field position.
On the ensuing posession, Red and Black quarterback Joe Brennan finds Keegan Queior who makes a beautiful 1 handed grab and takes the ball to the Plattsburgh 1. That sets up a 1 yard touchdown run by Trey Smith. The Red and Black go on top 6-0.
On their next posession, Plattsburgh takes the lead when Rascoe hits Zach Raymond for the touchdown. Score:7-6 Northstars.
Watertown goes on to beat Plattsburgh 23-20. The Red and Black's record improves tp 3-3 on the season. They play Schenectady on August 24th at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds.
Meanwhile in Carthage, there was Northeastern Football Alliance action as the Carthage Revolution looked to snap a 5 game skid against Tri-Valley.
The Revolution defense shut down the Warriors as Josh Lear came up witha quarterback sack.
In the 4th quarter, the score 14-3 Revolution. Manny Grice hit Zach Todd on the crossing pattern and he's gone. It was 57 yards for the touchdown. Score: 20-3 Revolution.
Carthage would continue to score on Tri-Valley, finishing the game with a score of 33-3 Revolution. The Revolution are now 4-6 on the season. They play Broome County on their home turf August 24th.
