Motorcycle crash kills 1, injures another

Fatal motorcyle crash

ELLISBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - One motorcyclist is dead and another injured following a crash on Route 11 in the town of Ellisburg Wednesday night.

Jefferson County sheriff's deputies say a northbound motorcycle driven by 44 year old Travis Johnston of Cantonment, Florida failed to negotiate a curve while passing other motorcycles and went of the road.

Johnston died at the scene.

Two motorcycles passed by the crash and crashed into each other.

One of the other motorcyclists, 47 year old Christopher Carr of Adams Center, was injured and initially taken to Samaritan Medical Center for treatment. While hospital officials told 7News Carr was treated and released, we have now learned he’s at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in stable condition.

The third motorcyclist, 30 year old William Johnston II of Watertown, was not injured.

Officials said all three men were traveling together at the time of the crash. Ravis Johnston was William’s uncle, officials said.

Deputies say excessive speed contributed to the crash and say they continue to investigate.

Also on the scene were state police, South Jefferson Ambulance, and the Mannsville Fire Department.
