SANDY CREEK, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Sandy Creek Comets made the postseason in Section 3 Class D football in 2018.

The Comets finished 2-2 in the Class D West Division and 4-4 overall. They lost to Herkimer 36-8 in the opening round of the Section 3 Class D playoffs.

Sandy Creek, a perennial playoff team in Class D, is hoping that streak continues in 2019.

Coach Mike Stevens says this year will be much different than years past.

"The division's interesting, we're down to only eight teams left in Class D playing 11-man football -- the traditional 11-man football -- so we're all in one division," he said. "The good part of that is you play everybody once and you figure out where you stand and go to playoffs."

Stevens says right now he's got a good number of players signed up for the season.

“We’re hoping that the number of kids that sign up come out and stay out and if that happens, then we’ll do our part to get them in shape and get them ready and see where the chips fall.”
