Sunday: Saying “good-bye” to a voice of the north country

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - If you ever went to a race at a North Country track, the voice calling the race was one you recognized in a heartbeat.

John Burr was the voice at one time or another for Can-Am Speedway, Adirondack Speedway and Evans Mills, where he started.

Burr passed away Friday at the age of 79.

John was also a fixture at the Lewis County Fair, calling the truck and tractor pulls, the demolition derby and the parade.

Burr was a textbook when it came to dirt track racing in the north country and was one of the nicest men associated with the sport.

Burr’s passing leaves a big void in the racing community and our thoughts go out to his son Tim, daughter Becky and the entire Burr family.
