Sports roundup: Lowville girls’ soccer, game highlights & scores

Friday morning sports wrap

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Lowville girls' soccer team has been undefeated in the Frontier League's B Division for the last three seasons.

It's a streak the Red Raiders would like to continue.

Last season, the Lady Red Raiders posted a 12-0 league record and a 16-2-1 overall mark, losing to Clinton in the Section 3 Class B semifinals.

Coach Leo Sammon says the secret to Lowville's success is simple.

"Honestly, I think we have kids that really want to work and buy into the program," he said, willing to sacrifice the "I", the individual things for the betterment of the team."

With nine seniors returning, hopes are high that the Lady Red Raiders can take care of some unfinished business -- win a sectional title and make a deep run in the state playoffs.

"I think we have a lot of potential -- we have some youngsters coming up, but they seem to fitting in very well," player Hannah Freeman said. "We have our first week of practices done with and I'm really impressed -- we have some big things ahead...

"I'm very optimistic, we're excited for what we have coming back, but we're also excited about what we have coming up to play with us this year," player Elizabeth Western said. "The team looks different and we're excited to play like that."

Lowville opens the season Wednesday, September 4 under the lights at Watertown High School against the Lady Cyclones. Game time is 7 p.m.
