Rain fails to dampen spirits at Adams Labor Day parade
ADAMS, N.Y. (WWNY) - A little rain didn’t stop the Adams Fire Department’s Labor Day parade Monday.
This was its 109th Labor Day parade and barbecue and this year marks 200 years of service for the volunteer fire department.
Years ago, people used to hang from the telephone poles to get a better view of the street.
On Monday, no one was hanging from the telephone poles, but the community did come out to watch the engines go by as more than a century old tradition.
“This community really supports us very well and we very much appreciate the support we get from this community. It’s really unbelievable and it allows us to be what we are and have what we have here because of the support we get from the community,” said Bob Simpson, spokesperson for the Adams Fire Department.
Adams community members also donated 38 cakes for a cake wheel game, where you pay a dollar, spin the wheel, and have the chance to win a cake. A fire engine cake was one of the big prizes.
