Indian River looking forward to gridiron opener at the Dome

Indian River football at the Dome

PHILADELPHIA, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Indian River football team is no stranger to playing at the Carrier Dome for a title, but opening up at the Dome will be a new experience against a new opponent.

The Warriors are one of two north country football teams opening their season at the Dome Saturday.

Carthage will face Maine-Endwell at 1 p.m.

The Warriors face Norwich at 7 p.m.

“We don’t know a lot about Norwich, we’ve only seen them scrimmage this year,” Indian River coach Cory Marsell said. “I’m sure they are talented, Section 4 always has really tough teams.”

As far as playing at the Dome, he said, “the kids are really excited about it, we like to earn it and we happen to get in there, so hopefully they will do a nice job in there.”

He says the team is “a great group of kids -- we are young, making some mistakes -- as long as we keep learning from them and getting better we will be okay, we’ll be competitive and that’s what we’re looking to be.”
